ECW started off with a Champion vs. Champion match with John Cena and Johnny Nitro in San Antonio. Then Rowdy Roddy Piper and Matt Striker came into the ring after the match. Matt demanded for Piper to sing him Happy Birthday, but Piper shoved a cake that was made for Matt in Striker's face insted.Than, the Boogeyman came and did what he does best. For the main event it was Elijah Burke vs. CM Puck for the #1 contender's match for the ECW title.

At the begaining of ECW, Mr.McMahon said the following reguarding the Benoit tragedy ''Last night on Monday Night Raw, the WWE presented a special tribute show, recognizing the career of Chris Benoit. On the contrary, tonight's show will be dedicated to everyone who has been affected by this terrible incident. This evening marks the first step of the healing process.
